Built by a parent, not a marketing team
GrowStrong Kids started with a simple problem: I'm a dad in Glasgow whose son plays football and does kickboxing, and I couldn't find straightforward, practical nutrition guidance for a kid training in multiple sports — most of what's out there is either aimed at adult athletes, written by brands selling supplements, or so generic it doesn't actually help on a Tuesday night when training starts in 20 minutes and nobody's eaten properly. So I built the resource I wished existed, sourced from the same dietary guidance the NHS uses, and built it to be genuinely free.
What we do differently
Everything is sourced, not guessed. Every nutrition figure on this site traces back to UK government dietary guidance — the NHS Eatwell Guide and UK Reference Nutrient Intakes — not opinion, not a supplement brand's marketing claims, and not US-based figures that don't match UK guidance (a mistake we've found and corrected on more than a few competing sites).
It's genuinely free. No email-walled "free trial," no upsell buried in a PDF. The nutrition and training guides on this site cost nothing because the goal is to be useful to as many parents as possible, not to convert them into a sale.
Sport-specific, not generic. A rugby prop and a competitive swimmer have different fuelling needs — our guides are built sport by sport and age by age, not as one-size-fits-all advice.
Who's behind this
GrowStrong Kids is written and run by Barry Hannan, a parent, not a registered nutritionist or medical professional. Every claim is sourced transparently to UK government dietary guidance so you can check it yourself, and we're building a network of qualified reviewers — registered nutritionists and dietitians — to check our content against professional standards as the site grows. Reviewer credits will appear here as partnerships are confirmed.
Nothing on this site is a substitute for advice from a GP, registered dietitian, paediatrician, or qualified coach — it's a starting point for informed conversations, not a replacement for professional advice specific to your child.
What's next
We're building out free tools (starting with a personalised matchday nutrition planner), more sport and recipe guides, and a growing panel of expert reviewers. Follow along on Instagram and Facebook (@growstrongkidshq) or get the free Hydration Guide to hear about new resources as they launch.
